Exploration and Discovery
Interactive exhibits are where curiosity and exploration of science are encouraged. Hand’s On! Inc., is a firm designing hands-on learning, and captivating visitors with engaging experiences in science and nature education.
The Challenge
To broaden educational opportunities beyond indoor exhibits, museums aimed to establish outdoor interactive exhibitions. These installations required robust, long-lasting building materials in vibrant colors to withstand wear and tear and repel dirt accumulation. Additionally, museums desire to ensure indoor materials are equally durable.
Selecting the Optimal Materials
Developing an outdoor exhibit posed the challenge of finding materials that could withstand public use and diverse weather conditions while also being visually appealing. Hands On! Inc. specified a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material, King ColorBoard® and King StarBoard®, for quality, ease of fabrication, environmental stability, and variety of gauges and colors.
The Solution
1. Kidspace Children’s Museum
Components of the Galvin Physics Forest are made with 3/4” gauge, 48” x 96” size sheets of King ColorBoard®, the colorful environmentally stabilized polymer sheet in KPG Orange color, and King StarBoard®, the original marine-grade polymer sheet in Dolphin Gray color.
2. Kentucky Science Center
Science in Play® is a next-generation science learning experience through the power of play and designed for the museum’s youngest visitors. Components are made with 3/4” gauge, 48” x 96” size sheets of King ColorBoard®, the colorful environmentally stabilized polymer sheet, in KPG Orange color.
3. Discovery Place Science
Outdoor science-based interactive exhibits are made with 3/4” gauge, 48” x 96” size sheets of King ColorBoard®, the colorful environmentally stabilized polymer sheet, in KPG Orange color and stainless steel material.

Visitors entering each exhibit encounter a vivid display of colors and interactive elements, enhanced by King StarBoard® and King ColorBoard® innovative applications. From exploring scientific concepts to admiring the materials’ aesthetics, each of the museums offers an immersive experience that sparks curiosity and wonder in all visitors.
