Upgrade to King FlameShield ASTM E-84 class A or class B flame compliance and CAN/ULC-S102 for Canadian compliance
While King Plastic Corporation has been running FR (Flame Retartant) material over the years we were never fully satisfied with final product. The products were either too heavy, had poor physical properties or were too expensive. As a standard King Plastic HDPE products are Class C compliant. We have now developed a Class A and/or Class B upgrade that improves the materials overall physical properties to be more resistant to burning and produce smoke under flammable conditions.
The upgrade applies to the King StarBoard® product family and are used in a broad range of product applications from marine components to indoor/outdoor cabinetry, structures, bathroom partitions, healthcare facilities and furnishings. According to ASTM International’s published standards, “This fire-test-response standard for the comparative surface burning behavior of building materials is applicable to exposed surfaces such as walls and ceilings. The test is conducted with the specimen in the ceiling position with the surface to be evaluated exposed face down to the ignition source.”

Results
Class A Interior Finish:
Flame Spread Index 0-25, Smoke Developed Index 0-450. Includes any material classified at 25 or less on the flame spread test scale and 450 or less on the smoke developed test scale. Any element thereof when so tested shall not continue to propagate fire.
Class B Interior Finish:
Flame Spread Index 26-75, Smoke Developed Index 0-450. Includes any material classified at 25 but not more than 76 on the flame spread test scale and 450 or less on the smoke developed test scale.
